Campaign Vision Phase I Priorities Giving Opportunities Progress

The best liberal arts institutions are forward looking. They are constantly moving toward greater relevance for the next generation of students. We're proud of William Jewell's legacy and excited about the discoveries happening daily on our campus; yet, we realize we must prepare ourselves and our students for a rapid rate of change.

The Campaign for Jewell will do much of what is required to keep Jewell vital. More than 200 people – trustees, administrators, faculty, students, alumni and friends – participated in the planning process to identify our challenges and needs. The outcome was a plan calling for three key initiatives.

Shaping
the Future
Supporting Students
and Faculty
Improving the Living and
Learning Community

Pryor Learning Commons supporting 21st century teaching and learning is the cornerstone project of the campaign. This three-story building, on the site where Greene Hall currently sits, will reflect the College's emphasis on collaborative learning and experiential education, and will broaden faculty and student exposure and access to the world's resources.

The Center for Justice and Sustainability supports the College's mission to foster leadership, service and spiritual growth. Support for the Center will help students develop the commitment, competence and confidence to address significant societal, economic and ecological challenges facing society today.

Operating support to the Jewell Fund builds quality into every aspect of college life: academic programs, scholarships and grants, faculty and staff salaries, co-curricular programs, equipment and more. Gifts to the Jewell Fund support today's students.

Journey Grants, a new initiative, will be awarded to students starting in the fall of 2012. Every student completing the sophomore year will be eligible for this grant to fund transformational experiences of their own design. Each grant will be a minimum of $2,000.

Need- and merit-based scholarships are vital to attracting and retaining the most qualified students at Jewell and putting the Jewell Journey within reach for more students.

An endowed faculty chair supports a faculty member with competitive compensation, professional development funds and research opportunities. These chairs and endowments for programs help us attract and retain top faculty.

Support for our athletic programs is critical if we are to provide a better experience for much of our student body. Improvements will be especially important as Jewell moved into NCAA Division II competition in fall 2011. Program offerings may expand, too, such as the recent addition of a swimming team.
