Campaign Vision Phase I Priorities Giving Opportunities Progress

The Campaign for Jewell is designed to awaken the very best in bright students and attract and retain the best faculty. We must extend relevant experiences which challenge and stretch students to discover their full potential. We must shape a living and learning community more reflective and responsive to the world in which we live. The Campaign for Jewell is an investment in preparing William Jewell for the future.

Journey Grants
The term “Jewell Journey” is used to describe the transformative and distinctive experience of Jewell students. While they share a host of common experiences, students chart their individualized course by pursuing projects, passions and questions of interest to them.

In fall of 2012, every student who has completed the sophomore year will be eligible to receive a Journey Grant to fund an education-enhancing, hands-on experience. Grants will be a minimum $2,000 with the opportunity for additional funds awarded on a competitive basis to support great proposals.

A few examples of the potential experiences that could be funded with a Journey Grant:

  • serve in our Village Partners Program in Honduras
  • work at an internship to test out a career path
  • conduct research on a favorite topic at the British Library
  • go on a medical mission trip in Tanzania
  • attend a specialized academic conference in the United States
  • shadow a Jewell grad in the forensics lab at the Dallas Police Department
  • develop micro-lending programs in Central America
  • improve living conditions at a Mozambique orphanage
  • travel with a professor to study spiders in the Puerto Rican rainforests
  • teach English at a girls’ boarding school in India
  • attend a world congress on sustainability

The Jewell Fund
The Jewell Fund supports the College’s operating costs and infuses critical annual gifts essential to building quality into every aspect of college life. Every gift to the Jewell Fund is a gift to the Campaign. Donations to the Jewell Fund can be used immediately where they are needed most and support a variety of areas:

  • scholarship and grant support
  • academic program budgets
  • faculty and staff salaries
  • equipment purchases
  • music, theater, debate, athletics, fine arts and other co-curricular programs

Our goal is not only to move the Jewell Fund to more than $2 million a year, but to create annual giving partnerships with a greater number of alumni, parents and friends.

John Priest Greene Society
Donors committing to provide annual support to the Jewell Fund at $1,000 or more will gain membership to the John Priest Greene Society. The John Priest Greene Society honors the legacy of William Jewell’s longest-serving president.  Dr. Greene’s devotion to the College for 30 years as president and 20 years as a Trustee has had a lasting influence on Jewell’s emergence as a national liberal arts college. Being part of the John Priest Greene Society means being part of a nationwide network of alumni, parents and friends who are active advocates for William Jewell.
