Campaign Vision Phase I Priorities Giving Opportunities Progress

Improving the Living and Learning Community

Most of our Phase I goals have been met and these will become a renewed focus during the second phase of the campaign.

Scholarships
Without scholarships to help finance their education, some deserving students would never find their way to Jewell. Need-based scholarships, from annual awards to full- or partial-tuition, are the key some bright scholars must have in order to begin their Jewell Journey.

Scholarships also help attract and retain students with demonstrated leadership, academic achievement and community involvement. These need- and merit-based scholarships help us recruit students who can both benefit from and contribute to the College’s scholarly community.

Endowed scholarship support connects donors to Jewell forever, giving them a valued place in Jewell’s continued mission to prepare students for the world. These scholarships will serve students for generations to come.

Endowed Faculty Chairs and Programs
Donors who choose to invest in academic excellence at William Jewell may establish an endowed chair, professorship or department. Their generosity enhances student experiences by supporting the faculty member’s salary, benefits and research. Educators in endowed positions use the funds to develop new curriculum, conduct pioneering research, support professional travel funds, purchase equipment and supplies, cultivate one-on-one relationships with students and foster collaborative projects with other professors.

Student  Housing
Students, whether consciously or unconsciously, factor perceived quality of living conditions heavily into their decision to attend the College. We must ensure that Jewell keeps pace with the rapidly evolving expectations and lifestyles of today’s college students if we are to realize enrollment goals. The new Shumaker Hall Sorority Houses and Greek Commons, completed toward the beginning of our campaign,  is an example of a state-of-the-art living and learning community making a difference for students today.

Athletic Support
Experiences outside the classroom help shape the person as much as experiences inside the classroom. A living environment full of opportunities lends balance to academic life.

William Jewell athletics has a strong heritage. During our transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II in 2011-2012 we continue to look for ways to strengthen our athletic program. The campaign will help open new recruiting markets, create new peer associations and encourage a more comprehensive integration of our academic and athletic programs. Needed renovations to our facilities will provide a better experience for our student body and fans. Expanded program offerings, such as the addition of a swim team in fall 2011, will attract more student-athletes to our campus.

These improvements are vital if we are to remain competitive with other college campuses and grow our enrollment.
